She doesn't leave any question unanswered and illustrates important information with practical examples from her long time career as physical therapist. This book contains everything you should know ahead of time, but your doctor will not take the time to explain. After reading this book you know exactly what to expect, things that might happen and how to deal with them.I thought this book was extremely helpful with my ankle surgery and it should be handed out by every doctor's office to every person considering, and deciding to have a replacement surgery.The fact that it is written from a physical therapist's point of view is helpful, because it approaches surgery from a very practical point of view and covers areas that a doctor might not think about discussing with their patients in the initial interviews.
This book sets the right expectations for anyone contemplating a major orthopedic surgery. Elizabeth Kaufmann makes it clear that a successful surgery is multi faceted with a full team effort. Best recovery entails the right mindset and expectations, pre-surgical prep, a good surgeon with post operative management and a well guided rehab plan.
