#24,507 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

It is well worth hearing what these particular AI researchers believe. I just think the book is too narrow for its title. Too much emphasis is placed on deep learning, artificial neural networks, and backpropagation algorithms. In fact, one can do deep learning with hierarchical/stacked clustering modules (see Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, 2nd edition, by W. Ertel, Springer, 2017, page 280 and my paper in Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science, volume 109, number 3-4, 2006, page 159).

In this book, Ford assembles a fascinating series of in-depth, one-on-one interviews with 23 of the world's leading researchers and entrepreneurs working in various aspects of the fields of AI and robotics. Many of the interviews are high-level conversations with extremely smart engineers and scientists about a topic some readers might feel is beyond them. But these conversations are surprisingly accessible, and Ford helps readers gear up with an introduction that includes a great basic AI/ML vocabulary list. One of the things I really liked about this book is Ford's decision to include entrepreneurs with serious commercial ambitions for this technology, so it's not just tech talk. One of the things that surprised me was the range of opinions expressed on this topic. It seems there's really no consensus among AI mavens about where these technologies are leading us and when we'll get there, at least for now.

This book is a gift to our society. These are beautifully crafted and curated interviews with 23 people-- most of whom have been direct and highly instrumental research and/or technology contributors to the recent wave of phenomenal AI progress, and a few others who are prominent and deeply knowledgeable observers, policy analysts and critiquers of AI trends and their future implications. There is no hype in this book. Everyone of the 23 interviews is with a deeply knowledgeable and thoughtful subject matter expert who responds to basic and fundamentally important questions about AI capabilities, AI limitations, trajectories for directions and progress, and their personal views on a few key societal impact issues. The beautiful thing about this book is that-- aside from the author Martin Ford's intro (1st chapter) and summary (last chapter), all of the speaking is done by the experts themselves, in their voice, with their own personal way of explaining core concepts, and their own personal views of social issues and impacts.Congratulations to Martin Ford for bringing this book to the world, so that we can all have such direct and intimate access to the the carefully stated and well written thoughts of these extraordinary collection of people who are all so deeply knowledgeable about AI (including past, present and future aspects of AI).I have been following this topic- very actively-- for over 35 years--- and even with all of that background, I find this a highly informative and delightful read. If you are not a specialist in this field, and you want a reliable and high quality way to get introduced to the big ideas and the big issues, this is a must read.Even if you are a specialist in the field, you will probably enjoy seeing the way that some of the world's foremost experts in these areas explain some of the basic and core concepts. This is NOT a book of hype. This is NOT a book that will tell you have to immediately revamp your business strategy. This IS a book that helps you understand the big and important ideas- but in very clear and easy to understand language. Through the interviews, the book clearly explains the foundational concepts and issues, both technological and social, and gives you a very good way to understand the current situation with AI capability and the directions for ongoing capability development.

This book shows you what’s really going on with AI from the experts themselves. You get to see what the experts in this book can already do with AI, and how much they believe AI will transform the world next. It's easy to read because you can follow Martin Ford and the experts talk normally. You learn a lot of things about AI and you also get to see the personality of the people who are building AI. Who they are, what they look like, how they think. It’s very interesting to watch each individual expert closely, and decide how their work in AI might change our whole world.

What an amazing book! It will wake you up about artificial intelligence. Anyone can read this and everyone should. I can't believe what they can make AI do now after reading this book. These experts are colorful and interesting, and the book is easy to dip into and learn new things about AI on every page. For instance, Rana el Kaliouby can make AI read your mind at your next job interview - who'd know? Stuart J. Russell scared the living daylights out of me, because he thinks we have to rethink a lot of stuff about our jobs and whether AI takes over a lot of things. But AI is also going to cure a lot of illnesses - so there are some BIG wins for everybody with AI.I'm stoked, scared, and ready to step into the future with AI. This book WILL excite you about what AI can do, even and sometimes it will scare you. They just have to get AI done right - so that it HELPS us. Martin Ford asks the experts all the BIG questions we need to know about. I can recommend this book.

The print font is too small for me to read.

Geoffrey Hinton made this interesting pointFor example, if you look at a tweet from Donald Trump, it's a big mistake to think that what Trumpis doing is conveying facts. That's not what he is doing . What Trump is doing is saying given aparticular situation, here's a way you might choose to respond. A Trump follower can then see thesituation , they can see how Trump thinks they ought to respond, and they can learn to respondthe same way as Trump. It's not that some proposition is being conveyed from Trump to thefollower, it's that a way of reacting to things has been conveyed by example.
