I was given this book to read but I would not hesitate to purchase it. It was well written and easy to read. The content was very interesting about this pilot's life experiences and career in the air force, his overseas deployment in Viet Nam, his command of gas tanker air craft, his experiences with the Canadiens and his adjustments to civilian employment after retirement. There are some technical parts I found a little difficult since I have no experience with flying planes but I read through them easily enough. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!

That said, it would be extremely helpful to have an idea of what constitutes a serving. Is it one scoop, made with what size spoon? Is it 1/2 cup, one whole cup, etc. This would help those of us weighing and measuring our portions because we are following a Ketogenic program where all of the macros count. PLEASE tell your readers what portion size you've based your macros on -- if you could do it for the already-published books that would be great but I realize it might not be feasible. Soooo, for your future books, I am serious suggesting you do this. American portions are generally way too big; please help us out.

This is my second cook book from this author, and I love both of them!! One of the factors that keeps me coming back to use this cookbook is the pictures!! Pictures of every single recipe!! The directions are clear and easy to read and the pictures show you exactly what it supposed to look like!! So many of these recipes can also be used for my whole family (I’m the only one who is Keto) but my husband and daughter enjoy them also!

Maybe it's not fair to give only three stars--the food I've made so far is wonderful. However, the reason I bought this cookbook was the "30 minute" wording in its title. I defy anyone to make these recipes in 30 minutes or less by themselves. Maybe if you have minions or sous chefs you could do it. So if you're reading this review, know that the author did indeed include mouthwatering low-carb recipes, but be prepared to spend way more than 30 minutes to prepare them.

Another amazing book from Kyndra! I’m excited about this one as I need quick and easy recipes for the work week. The photos are gorgeous and the recipes offer different options from Craveable Keto, which I’ve been cooking from since it came out. I have not made a recipe from Kyndra that disappoints! Definitely get this book if you’re living a keto lifestyle.

Awesome recipes that the entire family will love! The recipes are feasible, quick, economical, and most of all…delicious! Coming from bread/potatoes world with autoimmune issues I have found this transition to easier than one would have expected with only positives coming out of it. Kyndra’s cookbooks are perfect for beginners to veterans of this lifestyle. I have presented to my family that Keto is not a diet; however a lifestyle change for us and honestly, I have been blessed even my son have been open.

Another great Keto cookbook by Kyndra Holley - she makes doing Keto easy and so tasty! If you haven't already, check out her Craveable Keto cookbook, too - very informative (if you want to learn about Keto, this is the book to have in your kitchen!). Every single recipe I’ve tried so far has been amazing! Can’t wait to keep cooking my way through the rest!

Borzutsky's long lines remind one of Whitman, but his blurring and convoluting of events, his dystopian settings, and his dark social commentary run contrary to that particular impulse. The title, an illusion to Kafka's "A Report to an Academy," informs us of the strange and familiar as well as the absurd and poignant or the gruesome and touching all cut through the work. It's intense, allusive, and deserves several readings, but that very intensity and primal scream element actually makes several readings somewhat hard. Not for the easily exhausted in either content or form, this is a book of poetry like Pasolini's Salo is a film: returning to it makes it richer, but its intensity makes that return daunting. One major criticism is that the intensity of the style and use of long lines makes poems blur together immediately after reading--this seems like an intended affect, but does make it hard to write about. Some changes in style or form could have made the collection a little less daunting. This poems are hard because life can hard, precarious, biting; and while not without humor, Borzutsky's humor is so dark that it isn't necessarily a relief. I am torn on this volume, but I will reading Borzutsky in the future.

Every person that reads this book may come to a totally different interpretation but that is the joy of it. To me the book is an indictment of conformity in which people are like slabs of meat. The government is also shot on with Borzutzky's guns blazing brightly. Another theme is displaced people forced to struggle with situations outside their control. A well deserved award winning collection.

If I am being honest in my assessment, this book seems to be your average postmodern work that is compiled of a nice blend of communist propaganda, deconstructionist word salads, and moralizing soapbox identity politics. The author seems have a deep resentment for the condition of being and a forthright disgust for human life. I think we should consider our society fortunate that the poet does not have a very large audience, because I believe, this type of person being placed in the right position of power could prove genocidal.Also, after seeing in the back pages that this book was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, I have reconsidered my position in supporting the program,Communism is responsible for more deaths than Nazism, its not cool or the hip thing to like.Don't support this poet. I read "blink" and "The Tipping Point" together over the span of a week. Both books were very interesting and touched on similar insights into human behavior and psychology. "The Tipping Point" was similar in style to "blink" in that it presented a small handful of themes over and over to prove the premise the author initially laid out at the beginning of the book. Which is, of course, very convenient for the author. Gladwell essentially has a theory for why cool fads and trends catch on, and in writing this book he appears to have scoured a mixed bag of scientific and non-scientific psychological studies and historical observations to support his theory. The problem with this method is that its not the best way to prove the validity of a theory.One of the most excruciating passages in the book is when Gladwell tries to argue that former ABC news anchor Peter Jennings successfully swayed voters with his facial expressions in the early 1980's. A study apparently suggested that Jennings made favorable facial expressions while introducing stories about Regan but had a neutral face when introducing stories about Walter Mondale, and this caused viewers to change their voting habits. The author seriously tries to make his case solely on the fact that post-election ABC viewers were more likely to say that they voted for Regan than Mondale. It never even occurs to the author (even for a fleeting moment) that maybe ABC news viewers were/are more conservative as a group and thus predisposed to vote for a conservative candidate anyway. The sentence "Because serial killers drink milk, milk drinking must cause people to become serial killers" is a classic example of a Gladwell "proof."Taken as a whole, this book is a bit scary because its a likable best seller, but its unfortunately a sort of misguided Fox News or USA Today version of what could be a very interesting discussion. I hope more books will be written in this area, because it truly is a realm that needs more analysis.

Revere had a vast rolodex of acquaintances in colonial Massachusetts and he knew everything there was to know about the nascent independence movement. He set the scene for resistance to the onmarching British, and a few local men of Gladwell’s third type, the Persuaders, finished the job of rallying the militias of Concord and Lexington. Gladwell is adept at explaining the academic research that led to such popular ideas as “six degrees of separation” and relating such social science experimentation to his overall theme of how change happens. He goes deeply into the discoveries about learning that led to the success of “Sesame Street” and “Blue’s Clues”—these shows’ producers used the idea of “stickiness” to instill basic principles and values in pre-schoolers. The “broken windows” theory of policing gets a thorough explainer, including a side trip into how do-gooding seminarians can allow themselves to avoid being good Samaritans. Advertising is one of the great accelerators of trends, and Gladwell marshals a few Madison Ave. case studies to show how commercials tip us into parting with our hard-earned cash. As Usual, Malcolm Gladwell is a great story teller. The book is about the small things that can make huge changes. The book is interesting and fun to read, but there are two big problems:a) Malcolm Gladwell is not a scientist, and he lacks the skepticism which is so mauch an important part of science. He starts with the story of the crime fall in NY that came shortly after the start of the "broken windows" policy. The "fact" that the "broken windows"policy made such a huge change serves him well for his arguments, but there is a problem here. the claim that the "broken windows" policy was the main factor in reducing the crime at that time in NY, is an assumption, and by now we have strong reasons to believe that it played only a mior role in the crime reduction. Other factors such as reduction of lead in fuel have much stronger correlation with the crime reduction, and in many other places, as well, while efforts to replicate the "broken windows" policy elsewhere did not produce the same results. So his first chapter is about a nice but false story that if it was true, was showing an interesting nature of how vast changes in behavior happen.The second problem, is that the book was written before that Internet became a major player in the field. By now it is problably the most major player, but the book describes how things were before the Internet became a major player. In this sense, the book describes how things were in another era. Things have completely changed since then.

This is a good puppet book and we really like it. It's not as good as some of the other ones though. For one, the duck has something weird under it that does not resemble a body or feet in a number of the pictures (confuses my kid....and me). For 2, the duck's head is smaller than some of the other board books so not as interactive with the toddler. Great book besides that though.

My 8 months old loves this book. He loves the duck and he listens carefully when i am reading to him. Also you can play and create your own stories with the duck. :) however, the book is so tiny! It is the size of my palm. It is a very nice book that has a great idea of a puppet duck but I was surprised to see that it was so small.

I was very disappointed in this book. As you go through the pages the Duck head grows lengthwise and resembles maybe a snake or worm? The story is thoughtless and doesnt match the illustrations.

My baby loves this book! Maybe it is the duck, I don't know, but he gets really excited when we reach this part of his play. He has other books he reads too, but this is probably his favorite (besides 7 ducklings). A lot of fun for a creative parent who can make a whole story out of this little guy. Definite must have in my book! (considering buying the others, but I think 1 should be enough for him to get the idea, maybe when he is a bit older we can order the others because right now it is a new story every time we pick it up!) I like the fact that parents can make up longer stories and interact with the infant stage.

Not much of a story here to read but the little duck is a big hit. Lots of laughter. Grandson likes it too. :-)

She loves to see the duck's face wiggle and she gives the face a little kiss every time we turn the page. At 18 months, her fingers are just about long enough to wiggle the face herself.

It's a well-written, accessible, and formative introduction to contemporary Christian social ethics in a liberationist perspective. His epilogue is honest and instructive, "I have consistently heard from colleagues who have used this book in their class that students either love it or hate it. No one is ever neutral." Their rightful focus is systemic social relationships. Part II introduces case studies in "Global Relationships" and focuses on globalization, poverty, war, and environment. In each of its chapters, the perspectives of marginal and dispossessed people are prioritized and excellent ethical questions illuminated. Part III covers case studies in "National Relationships," and introduces the concept of empire, and focuses on national poverty, political campaigns, and life and death. In each, material is neither redundant or haphazard, but organized with a sociological lens with attention to questions of social justice and real-life ethical dilemmas. Part IV provides case studies in "Business Relationships." Again, the chapter focuses on relevant social inequities and power structures created by free-market systems and seeming unquestionable economic logic. The chapters cover corporate accountability, affirmative action, the war on women (sexist discrimination, gender inequality, sexual violence, reproductive rights and campaign to control womens' bodies), and private property. In this final chapter, Miguel De La Torre does an excellent job focusing not on overworked debates over capitalism vs socialism, but succinctly and clearly states the problem of property in relationships to the poor and dispossessed.Each chapter and case study demonstrates the hermeneutical circle outlined in Chapter 3 and ends with real-life situations shaped by clear ethical questions and dilemma that the reader (or student) can meaningful engage.I appreciate this text for its breadth and focus. This is one of the most difficult yet rewarding books I've read in years. I have to read a paragraph or two, set the book down, digest, walk into the new space opened for me, and then come back to it again later. I can't imagine how I got this far in Latino ministry, or any ministry, without having read this book first. It both challenges my presumptions and confirms my intuitions. Although written decades ago, it uncannily speaks to ethical issues of 2017.

This book will be a great resource for the adult unit on Christian ethics that I am leading. The information contained was updated for this 2nd edition, and is timely and thought-provoking. It is not easy reading in the sense of making the reader feel good, but it is understandable without an academic background in the field. I am glad to add this resource to my library. De la Torres presents a valuable perspective for anyone who wants to think more deeply about ethics and the world we live in.

This is one of those books that one hates to love. It was very much an eye-opener, teaching me that this world is not nearly as wonderful as I thought it was. Miguel de la Torre did an excellent job of covering a variety of contemporary subjects that are so important to our society today. He caused me to expand my view of those who are on the margins and gave solid case studies that in some cases were shocking. This is a book that is neither focused on Democratic or Republican views, but one that is based on the whole of our American - and indeed - the world today.

Pushed me to think more critically about ethical issues and it exposed some blind spots that I had in my processing of some ethical considerations.

This book made me cry. It's very good and well written, but the subject matter is hard. The chapter on the environment is especially hard. An almost overwhelming amount of statistics and information on the horrors of environmental racism and just badly we've effed up the planet on multiple fronts. The case studies will break your heart.

Excellent text. Well written, full of well-researched facts but readily accessible to undergrads. The case studies as a means to apply the hermeneutical circle process are great practice. De La Torre blends history with 21st century issues to state clearly that Christian Ethics means doing ethics from the margins.

In Insurance from Underwriting to Derivaties, Eric Briys and Francois de Varenne, both Deutsche Bank insurance experts, have written a highly technical, albeit readable, book for their professional peers. They discuss property-casualty insurance, risk, securitizing, pricing and liabilities duration in the United States and Europe. However, it will dawn on the casual reader fairly early that there should be an "experts only" label on the book jacket. Even the basic introduction to property-casualty insurance begins with the presentation of complex mathematical models. More daunting models, charts and graphs elucidate information throughout. Insiders will appreciate this data and the extensive footnotes and references. While this may not be a book for the mid-management reader, we from getAbstract assure you, without risk, that its target audience - financial executives and professionals in the insurance industry - will be very glad to have it.

This is probably the best book on insurance for explaining the poor state of some ALM techniques used in insurance today and why. The authors correctly identify many falacies that actuaries have relied on and how they differ from the more advanced finance that has developed in banking ALM and the capital markets generally.They do, however, get a bit distracted on a couple of topics, and bogged down in some formulas that I didn't think added much to the disccusion. In those moments, you know you're reading the work of university professors rather than practitioners.They could have gone further with their ALM thinking. They could have discussed how mergers between insurance and banking would in the future highlight the differences between the current approaches to ALM, and how financial conglomerates will eventually just relegate insurance to one of many liability businesses, apply option-adjusted transfer prices to insurance products, and take the interest rate risk into consolidated positions. It will not be any more complicated than that. They allude to banking ALM, but don't really drive home any of what I thought were the logical conclusions. They were focused on insurance as stand-alone companies and did not address insurance in the context of a financial conglomerate.Nonetheless, as stated, this is probably the best book on the market as an introduction to insurance ALM and helps dispell many myths and provides some useful history.

As a non insurance specialist, I was curious what the authors have to write about the convergence between the insurance industry and the capital markets. In particular the aspect of derivatives, since I'm in Equity Derivatives. The authors cover nicely the rapid change the insurance industry has faced the last couple of years. Show risk, opportunity, and support many arguments with mathematical models. Even though the authors have an outstanding academic record, the book is aktually fun reading (no boring academic book). References to other articles are extensive and the ALM Survival Toolkit in the Appendix is very well done. HUGE selection of recipes sure to fit anyone's tastes, but no photos!!!! Photos offer such an inspiration to make a dish, and I miss those so much!!! I would've paid more for the book had they included those. Maybe they were trying to keep the costs down. If so, I can respect that, for sure. It's a very thick book and if you don't need photos, there's a ton here. If you need photos, you might be disappointed.

My wife and I ordered this cookbook as soon as I was released from the hospital. I had had a heart attack at age 58, and healthier eating--low-fat, low-cholesterol, low-sodium, smaller portions--was on the menu. It has now been more than six weeks, and we have eaten about 90 percent of our meals from this book. People ask me, "what do you miss most?" and I have nothing to say. The recipes have yielded such tasty meals that I truly never think about the fact that I'm not getting the salt or fat I was so used to.I recommend this book to anyone who needs or wants to eat healthy food. My wife did not have a heart attack, but she has chosen to eat exactly what I eat (and is losing weight, as I am, because of it) and is enjoying the food every bit as much as I am.Get this cookbook as soon as you can.

This has been a GREAT help.It's for my mom but everyone in my household has come down with something where we need a variation of this diet! I needed a diabetic diet and this meets our needs very well.What i didn't expect was this book doesn't treat you as if you already know how to do certain types of cooking. Online tutorials have not been kind to this newlywed. I've learned so much on top of getting to eat healthier! We've even trimmed down a bit thanks to recipes for homemade broths and seasoning mixes and various other staples for cooking in this book. (Try the taco recipes if you get this, my family loves how flavorful they came out.)Combine this book with a transition from store bought seasoning mixes with more than 100mg of sodium (not % but MG!! If you're also on a "under 1500mg of sodium" limit as well) and canned veggies to frozen and you're well on you're way to better health! (Purely my opinion as my body struggles with preservatives in canned products. I know not everyone can afford dropping cans from their lives. Even We don't buy fresh. I could go into detail but I'm reviewing the book not my life lol)Definitely something to look into, even if you don't have cardiac or diabetic issues!

Until I got this cookbook.I am only 31 years old. And after giving birth to my daughter 7 months ago (and a horrible 12 day hospital stay), I was told I had heart failure (cardiomyopathy). It was devastating. Then once I learned what eating too much sodium really does to me and causes breathing problems, I knew I really had to stick to my Doctor's orders of consuming no more than 1,500 mg of sodium a day.I never thought I ate much sodium. I was the kind of person who rarley salted my food, I didn't eat fast food, I tried to get natural or organic ingredients, I even had unsalted butter at home. No one realizes that sodium is in EVERYTHING once you really look at it. So when you're faced with having to restrict your intake, it's daunting and depressing. I cried so many times thinking I'd never get to eat at a restaurant ever again. I'd never have good tasting food again.First I ordered the No-Salt cookbook. Hated it. Most bland food I've ever had.Then I tried this. Oh my god, it allows me to eat CHEESE and BACON! (Wisconsin girl here) I am telling you, you will not think you are eating low sodium meals with this cook book. Not only are the recipes low sodium, but low fat too. They really know how to bring out flavors without salt. My husband cooks recipes from this book every night for me, and even he likes it. I've only had a couple recipes so far that I didn't care for much. This is a winner!Also, look up the AHA Healthy Slow Cooker Cookbook.

I ordered this book for two reasons one my best friend has to be on a heart healthy diet, and on my dad's side of the family has a lot of heart problems do I wanted to stop from getting one.... I did rent heart healthy cook books from the library, but 90% of them had pork ham bacon and sausage recipes and I can't eat these because I'm allergic to them, but this book isn't like that it's filled with stuff I can eat. I haven't cooked out of it yet, but my best friends daughter has a diet doctor who says this book is promising.

This cookbook looks fabulous! My sister is using it and mentioned several good recipes. My husband recently had a heart attack. He is recovering nicely, but I am trying to learn a new way of cooking. The only drawback (and it isn't really a bad point) is that it is so huge that I am a little overwhelmed!

This is a good place to start on the quest to prepare heart healthy meals. There are a wide variety of recipes to keep things from getting boring, and detailed nutritional information is listed for each one. Some of the recipes go a little heavy on the carbohydrates (rice, etc), but those are easily adjusted by switching out the offending ingredient for something else like spinach, other veggies, etc. I only mention this because our cardiologist emphasized low carbohydrate in general, not just the white flour/sugar type--other physicians' recommendations might not include that particular caveat.

My first cookbook ever, so I don't have anything to compare it to but I'm in love with the recipes. It's like I've been accepted into a super secret society where good meals abound. Only thing is it sold 3 million already lol. Onr down side is not pictures but the instructions are detailed to the point that it's hard to mess things up. 4 stars!
