The Body in the Attic, the first Jazzi Zanders Mystery, was a surprisingly emotive cozy for me. Judy Lynn, the author, really causes me to care about the deaths (count ‘em- two) in the novel. I think this may be why The Body in the Attic standsout to me. Usually, the dead people are so odious everybody, including the reader, is glad they’re gone. In this case, I guess I felt real pain for those left behind.Jazzi and her cousin Jerod are house flippers who find a certain body in the attic of the latest house they are fixing up. I love the love triangle that Ansel, their construction contractor, gets involved in, but it was weird. For once I thought sure I knew who was guilty. But no, Lynn did a great job and I missed it by a mile.Great snarky quote?“...she chased dollar signs harder than greyhounds chase rabbits.”I do need to add the caveat that I do not agree with all situations and language in the book, but I still enjoyed this new start to a series and look forward to the next.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. All opinions are my own and no positive review was required.

What a great read! If you’re looking for a cozy that combines wonderful characters, a delectable murder mystery plot rife with numerous suspects and stellar writing, look no farther! I loved this entertaining introduction to a new series by author Judi Lynn. Jazzi and her cousin Jerod flip houses along with Ansel, a local contractor who helps with the gut-and-remodel work. They make a great team and have a wonderful friendship (although there are plenty of sparks under the surface between Jazzi and Ansel). The latest house they undertake comes complete with a body in a trunk in the attic. And that’s just the beginning of this twisty read that delves into secret histories, family dynamics, old rivalries and more.George, the pug, is a fun addition, as are Jazzi’s weekly Sunday dinners with her large and colorful family. I felt like I got to know each of them. I also really enjoyed seeing how the remodel job on house progressed, and loved watching the whodunit murder mystery unfold.I can’t wait for the next book in this engaging series!

This is a very good read with engaging characters and a great story line. It is also well written and I look forward to the next one! The only reason I gave this a 4 rating, is because as another reviewer brought up, there is no detective in the world who is going to ask a civilian to go along with him when he interviews witnesses on any case let alone a murder.

It’s great to be able to rely on a reliable writer! In the Mill Pond series, Judi Lynn gave us family, romance, humor and food. In this series, she stirs mystery into the mix and a yummy dollop of the devastating—be still my thumping heart—Ansel. A cozy with just the right dash of the macabre.

This would have been a 4 star book for me but unfortunately there was a few flaws that knocked it down. I enjoyed the mystery aspect and the history surrounding it. I liked the cast of characters, including George the Pug and I felt like there was a good plot and good writing. However, I hated the constant talk about one of the main characters girlfriend, and how awful she was. I got it after the first few mentions, it didn’t need to be rehashed constantly. I also hated the way that a relationship developed. The book began to feel a lot like a romance novel with a mystery on the side instead of letting the mystery be the star. I think that the romance really could have been toned down to allow things to develop naturally over several books. There were also a few points where I felt like the book should have been close to the end but it wasn’t. It dragged a bit in parts. Overall, it was an okay read for and I will probably still give book two a chance.

Jazzi is okay as the heroine, interesting with some funny thoughts. The sentences were short and simple. Very little visual. The writer tells what's happening instead of showing. Ansel was a wimp and too much time was spent talking about his girlfriend. I felt like the main story revolved around the meals she cooked. Jazzi didn't really hunt down the killers. She just went with the police to talk with people about the murders. I couldn't get. into it

Here’s a book that will give you pleasure. It’s got conflict, an interesting plot, twists, and suspense enough to spice any good recipe. The author includes recipes in her narrative, as her main character Jazzi cooks up ideas about suspects and murderers as well as quick lunches and Sunday dinners for her family and friends. I bought Body in the Attic when it was first released, and am happy to learn that it has now reached top seller ranking. Judi Lynn has developed a series that will take readers on adventures and trysts. “Try it, you’ll like it” can be applied to her stories and her many dishes.

I really liked the storyline, but it didn't have the depth that I like in a good book. I felt like she was rushing to Get to the end.
