Over my tenure as a teacher, I've tried different methods and activities to start off the day. This tops the list. Morning group gatherings have made a drastic difference. It will definitely help students trust one another, and promote academic and social growth.
If you are into the "Love and Logic", this is great way to start your morning with your class and to end the day. Don't tell me that you don't have time. Make the time and I promise your kids will love you and your day will be easier!
I've been using the ideas and strategies in this book with my 7th graders. They actually like this idea of a daily check-in even if it is very short. I can tell they are pressured by their peers to do well, sit quietly and listen to each other which is hard for my students. I'm so glad I purchased this book and I will use it every year from now on. It has really helped build a safe environment to share in my classroom.

Bought the First Six Weeks of School book first and loved it, but wanted more info. The Morning Meeting helped me to get a better grasp on what to plan for and how to effectively integrate this component into a classroom. I teach fifth grade and the author does a great job of including ideas and examples for older kids as well as younger.
