I enjoyed this book but it was not what I expected. I expected this to be written more in the form of a journal or travel memoir, where we would read what the person was feeling while going to certain places and doing certain things, in their voice. While parts of it had some of those moments, it was more like blog entries telling you what they did and where. It is split by each trip and then each trip is split by what the author did, where they ate and where they shopped. Many of the places visited on these trips no longer exist. To me it seemed more like a travel guide of what to do and what not to do than a memoir making us fall in love with a town that the author fell in love with. While I did enjoy it, I would think of this more as a travel guide than a memoir.
Let me preface this review with I read an ARC of this book, courtesy of the author.This is a good read if you're thinking of vacationing in Myrtle Beach. The caution I have is that the most recent trip noted in this travelogue was several years ago. The author does note which restaurants/hotels/attractions are no longer in business.If the intent of this travelogue was to make me want to vacation in Myrtle Beach, it did not fully achieve it's purpose. I am cautioned by the crowds during the main vacation season, so I would only want to go if it was off-season. I did like the comparison of traveling as honeymooners to planning for the family trip as a full family and as a single mom; also for the family they wanted to include their pet, so this was helpful for ideas of where to stay with a family pet.
