I'm scared of regular expressions. They vex me constantly at work whether trying to figure out someone else's Apache RewriteRules or Perl or just trying myself to do mildly clever things in vi and sed. They are a headache.A coworker let me browse his copy of this wonderful little book and I was hooked. I actually tried to buy one that day on the way home, but they were out of stock and so I permitted Amazon to ship me one.In addition to brief explanations of the different types of regexes in the wild (based on the comprehensive Mastering title, also from ORA), there are detailed quick references to all of the different implementations including several common languages (Perl, PHP, C#, and several others) and software packages (including sed, Apache, vi and many others). All of their various quicks and "features" are explained briefly and there are some examples.No one hacking around in Unix or doing much programming should be without this book, unless they are already a regex wizard, and I think even they'd find it handy.

Pocket references are not meant to teach you anything from the beginning, but to be everyday references in known and new environments. In other words, if you don't know regular expressions, then go to "Mastering Regular Expressions". If you're still here, then you'll get a cheat sheet on steroids for languages ranging from bug-prone JavaScript to the King and Queen of robustness, Perl and Python. Although everything claims to be PCRE these days, particular examples in every language available is a plus for anyone. A must for any type of user input validation.

If you ever play with text files to produce reports, speadsheets, etc ... this book is for you ... of course, if you have never used regexp before, grab a more comprehensive teaching book ... but you will find yourself trying to remember the arcane syntax and this book can help. I leave it open on my desktop when working in scripts.

This is the book I use more often than any other programming/technology book. I use several different languages and tools, and I have bookmarks by the entries for .NET, Java, vi and Perl. I know regular expressions well enough where I don't always need the book, but when trying to remember which versions need the backslash before the "newer" functionality, and other differences between versions or subtleties of some of the less-used syntax, I am glad I have a copy at work and another copy at home.

Do you swap languages to often and don't remember exactly how to do regex? This is the book! Very useful. Just go to the language section, see the symbol table an go to the example and you're done. This is by far my most used book. The only thing that it needs is a section for javascript. I hope that it will be added in a next edition.

Useful quick reference for those times when you're working from a command line and don't have "a" window open, let alone the ability to open a"nother" one.

I naively assumed that the second edition would include Perl 5.10, as they came out the same year. But this is not the case and the changes in regex support between 5.8 and 5.10 were significant enough that this is a big hit for this book. It's now 4 years old and while I can't speak for other languages, I'll be surprised if .NET regex support hasn't also evolved in that time.

It's alright.

As I live and teach in Costa Rica a goodly percentage of the year now I am always thrilled to find these digital collections at such low prices so that I can maintain access to a full library. I recommend them to my students here as well as they do not have access to many books, especially English classical literature. This is a nice collection of classic goth books with a wide selection of authors.

I bought the Golden Deer Classics 500 Eternal Masterpieces Of Fairy Tales to share with my oldest goddaughter and this was one of the recommended titles.I had read most of these when I was younger, but it has been a long time. It will take an even longer time to get through the entire book (we are alternating with the fairy tales), but we have thoroughly enjoyed every story (reading them in order). The few have we have read so far they are even better than I remembered!AfterThought: Yes, I got her mother's permission first before sharing the books with my granddaughter...

Not every old horror story is a Gothic; there are certain literary conventions that define the genre. This collection stretches that definition and even (incredibly) includes some non-Gothics like OLIVER TWIST and VILLETTE (to name just two); being neither Gothic nor horror, such works as those are conspicuous here by their presence. (And just for the record, be aware that VARNEY THE VAMPIRE, as here presented, is incomplete; it has only the first 93 of some 220 chapters.)That said, regardless of labels, this bundle provides a feast of shudders for fans of such fare. You've probably read many or even most of them before -- they have long been readily available individually in free public domain editions -- but this large bundle may just provide an opportunity to discover something "new." These Gothics, or whatever else some should rightly be called, are all worth reading, and acquiring them in a single download is a convenient, time-saving way to get many months worth of reading pleasure -- and countless goosebumps -- in one fell swoop.

The price was awesome but the fact that you get to read the classic gothic horror for the first time or maybe you read it in the past as a kid and revisit your fears! Highly recommend this!

Since my wife's blood tests recently came back reflecting a higher-than-acceptable cholesterol level, we thought that we'd pick this up for some ideas as to some beneficial meals. But, upon review, there are few "normal" or "practical" recipes!! Most require ingredients that we don't normally have on hand and some of which we had never heard! I understand that "cheeseburgers and fries" would not be included in most "low cholesterol" cookbooks but there have to be more recipes that require more usual or normal ingredients. It's that book for which we are still looking and, I'm sure, will find. This "Dummies" book will serve as a conversation piece, at best. It's pretty-much a waste of money...

When I found out I had high cholesterol in my mid-40's I went RUNNING to find cookbooks so I could lower it. I have bought 5 so far, this one is by far the best as far as information goes. It gives lists of foods you should keep around the house to snack on, lists of foods that should be kept handy for cooking and a no-nonsense approach to the health needs of those with high-cholesterol. There aren't as many recipes as some of the cookbooks I have; but the recipes they do have rate above the others in terms of the ease of procuring the ingredients, the taste of the food, and the simplicity of the recipes. I would not waste my time with the American Heart Assoc. cookbook if you are unsure of which to buy. As far as the 4 star rating, I can't see any low-cholesterol cookbook getting a 5 star rating - we who are doomed to a life without sugar, baked goods, white breads, mayo, luncheon meats, etc. are not prone to give any cookbook a 5 star rating!

I really like this book because they use plain English which makes theinformation easy to absorb. There are a lot of tips and suggestionsplus a lot of recipes that are aiding in lowering your cholesterol. I especially likedthe fact that each recipe gives "per serving" information about calories, fat content,etc. Very helpful!

This book for Dummies includes recipes putting all the educational information in the beginning chapters into practice. If you need a crash course in HDL/LDL and controlling cholesterol levels through diet, this book is an excellent source of information.

I guess when I brought this book used, I should have known that it would be outdated. I think as far as it goes the information is good. But I think there are new ideas about lowering cholesterol that are not listed. The information helped me a great deal though since I didn't know where to start on this type of diet. It was in very good condition.

Good book!

Just got told I am a bit too high in the cholesterol area so had to start cutting out some stuff. This book gives a good explanation of the hazards and roles they play in your body and provides pretty good meal options.

It’s a manual on how to apply the basic tenants of the ancient but dynamic practice of buddhism to the very real and difficult modern world to solve any problem or struggle that is before us and develop an unshakable kind of deep fundamental happiness regardless of our circumstances, and to positively influence our communities and the world.In this volume, the story follows a young man, Shin’ichi Yamamoto, newly made the international president of a fledgling buddhist organization after the death of his mentor and father figure, Josei Toda. The first chapter, Vanguard, is one of my favorite of the entire series. To me, it is about how to stand up and be at the forefront of a movement for peace and happiness in our communities, no matter what anybody else is (or isn’t doing) and finding great joy in the work. What I got from the Training chapter is about how to really train oneself and not blame others or expect them to take care of things that we aren’t doing, and giving responsibility to youth and supporting them 100% in developing themselves. The Courageous Endeavor chapter is about how to support and encourage each other as a team, making up for each other’s weaknesses with our strengths, working with compassion, energy, wisdom, and kindness, utilizing the tremendous power found in our buddha nature/ universal life flow. The Banner of the People chapter is about true equality and respect between all individuals at every level of society.All in all, NHR volume 2 is especially heart felt, kind and an incredibly manual for compassionate leadership, and one of my favorite volumes of an incredible series.One thing to note – an updated version of Volume 1 of the NHR was recently released and it is probably that the same will happen for Volume 2, so you may want to see if that has happened before buying this volume.A second note is that you will sometimes see people refer to the SGI as a “cult” and be deeply suspicious of Daisaku Ikeda. Although a healthy skepticism regarding religious figures is a good thing, it is also important to look at their achievements over time, the difference they have made in the world, and do respectable people respect them and their work – do they stand the test of time? Dr. Ikeda has 378 academic honors from respected universities around the world because of his peace work including Martin Luther King’s alma matter Morehouse College, more than 760 honorary citizenships from cities, states and local governments around the world, great friendships and dialogues for peace with hundreds of notable figures around the world including Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, Wangari Maathai, Arnold Toynbee, Elise Boulding, Anwarul K. Chowdhury and many more. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize multiple times and has hundreds of honors from around the world. The United States House of Representatives and individual states including Georgia, Missouri, and Illinois have passed resolutions honoring the service and dedication of Daisaku Ikeda as one "who has dedicated his entire life to building peace and promoting human rights through education and cultural exchange with deep conviction in the shared humanity of our entire global family." Well I was trying to help mother in law out with her no salt low sodium diet. I am not sure she got any help from this book. I believe she is looking for something simpler. I am not saying it didn't help her at all and it's not a great book but I got this as a gift to help her. I should have done some reading through it first!

Great recipes! My husband is unable to have sodium and I have to learn how to cook all over again.

My husband is on a low or no salt diet. I searched a lot of cookbooks but never found one to my liking until this one. Great recipies and I could not really tell ta huge difference between cooking with salt and cooking without. I purchased no sodium baking soda and baking powder and tried some muffin recipies as well as other baking recipies and I could not tell the difference at all. This is now my right hand cookbook. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to lower their salt intake.

This is a great little cook book! A life saver! My best friend has severe health issues, and can NOT have ANY salt. Do you know how hard it is to find any processed food with little or no salt? Near impossible! He loves the book, and we would recommend it to anyone with salt issues in their diet.

Love this book, helped me lower my sodium significantly.

Great book. The recipes are not complicated. There are some no salt ingredients that I could not find locally but I found them online at amazon instead. I already and going to try and make something for my dad for Christmas. It is nice to have a book rather than looking up recipes online.
