Volume 30 picks up where Volume 29 left off. An expedition from Alexandria et al. discovers a new community—the largest one The Walking Dead has ever seen. It looks to be fascinating, allows for one big reunion(!), and sets up potentially a lot of story. The slow moments and the emotional beats here are also very, very good. The volume is only hurt by some characters making some decisions that frankly don’t make a lot of sense and by some wooden dialogue. But I am really excited to see where this goes.

By now you either love it or hate it.******Spoilers************Spoilers warning*****You finally get to meet the girl on the other end the the radio. And the common wealth has over 55k people in it... Something is seriously wrong here though. I can't wait to figure out what's next. I mean machines daughter? Wow did not see that coming. Great addition.i was wondering what bog adventure could possibly be next and still be interesting. I'm getting a little concerned they might run out of material. But the common wealth is interesting enough. Also who are the next bad guys with the whisperers gone?

These comics are the best. Different from the TV show but still just as good. Both stand alone with a few similarities. Will always be a fan. Sometimes I wish the images were in color though.

There is so much detail in the writing and character development. The tv show has none of this. The comic leaves you waiting to turn each page on suspense. Highly recommended.

Wow! Some great twists in these issues and, hopefully, another long story arc that might be "world changing" for our crew!

This is a singleton-spy versus scores of agents from “action-oriented” Washington acronym-agencies, plus covert stateside military assets.This is my first Gray Man novel which I enjoyed overall, and I will be looking at other books in this series. The writing is very good although overly descriptive in places; the plot-driven storyline is satisfyingly complex; the primary and secondary characters well-drawn.That said, at times the action—especially toward the end—swerved into realms of the fantastic, and the protagonist became a superhero. I’m thinking a combination of Bond, Bourne and maybe John Wick. The author is following in the footsteps of Ludlum, Trevanian, Lustbader & Clancy, so I’m guessing that superhuman protagonists are de rigueur for this genre.I was of two minds about rating this book. It wasn’t a 3 Stars book but really 3.5. Since I enjoyed reading most (>3/4) of this book, it’s 4 Stars.

Wow! I'm new to the Gray Man series and just finished reading all 5 books back to back. I am an avid reader of Thor, Flynn(Mills), Ben Coes, Marc Cameron and many many others in this genre. This author and series is by far the BEST. The action is non-stop at a break neck pace. The Gray Man, Court Gentry, is a "good guy" in a world where he is constantly up against nothing but bad. He's has been on the run from the CIA for 5 years, due to the "shoot on site" order the Director of NCS gets signed by the President. The thing is, he really DOES NOT know what he did to get into this situation. He followed orders, did his job well, actually was the best employee anyone could ask for. His reward? To have his own team at the CIA sent to terminate him. So, he runs for his life, and in the process becomes the "Gray Man". Court's skills make him the best, highly paid assassin in the business. He works all over the world, and along the way, he makes enemies, like the CIA, who want to kill him.Now, he has enemies everywhere and he is constantly hiding, watching over his shoulder and can never rest.What makes him so special? He not only is the best assassin in the world, he also only takes on jobs where he knows he is ridding the world of truly awful people. He does the right thing. Even through 5 years of hell, hiding out in 3rd world countries from everyone who's after him, he remains fiercely loyal to the United States. He is a patriot and really wants nothing more than to go "home" to the US AND to get answers as to why the CIA wants him dead. In this, the 5th book in the Gray Man series, he finally gets those answers.These books are so well written, the ideas that Mark Greaney come up, both that get Gentry into trouble, and the way he gets himself out, with are beyond heat pounding. Waiting for the next phase of what Court Gentry's life becomes is going to be like torture to this fan. Although, there is one thing that will make waiting for the next book bearable, the new book will be released on Feb. 21, 2017, my next birthday.

Back Blast is Mark Greaney's 5th installment in the hugely successful Gray Man series. Court Gentry has finally made it home to the USA, intending to get to the bottom of his original termination order. Greaney's been hinting at this backstory since book 1, and finally delivers the goods. Denny Carmichael, Gentry's nemesis comes at him full throttle, including using foreign agents on US soil. While old standbys such as Zack and Hanley play major roles, there are new players such as a new operator and a young, ambitious CIA "suit." Gentry does DC, gray man style and the action is non-stop and intense.The Gray Man tradecraft is nearly over the top, from knocking off an Aryan drug house to intervening in a convenience store robbery. At the same time, there are various perspectives trying to piece together the story beyond Gentry, including other CIA staff and newspaper reporters. All this is set against a backdrop of realistic news reporting (mostly CNN) that is mostly spin, but eerily familiar with today's headlines. There is even a short interlude of father - son bonding gray man style. Gradually, the story behind Back Blast (an old Gentry mission) unfolds, but not before several unique and unexpected twists and turns. The final denouement is both thrilling and climatic, worthy of a multiple installment spanning story-arc.With successful resolution of the gray man status that drove the previous series of escapades, Court is ready to start a new chapter in his life. While he is reunited with his former boss, he has a new handler and seems primed for new adventures.

This book is almost square, a fine format for displaying the well chosen images. It says "Black & White" but it also says "Complete Guide", and that's so true. Here you find a very methodic approach to this subject. Starting with simple straight forward color to B&W conversion and showing clearly that the simple way is quick and so dirty, Michael soon leads us into the world of creatively making what we want and how to tweak the image to get that result. Michael shows us (using Photoshop as main tool) step by step how to tackle the issues, from the color image itself via the conversion (tools) to processing the converted result. Other conversions (like duotones, InfraRed, solarization) are very well explained, in completely worked out examples. Likeable is that he really shows the different possiblities, sometimes to show that some ways are not producing top quality work, sometimes to show the choices, creative decisions you have to make for yourself. Plug-ins and other specialistic tools (for making digital look like film, for noise-reduction etc.) are nicely introduced, showing where, if and when they are needed.The images are beautiful and to the point. The examples show that seeing in color is so different from seeing in B&W. Michael makes us aware of thinking beforehand in B&W, shown also in work made by the masters (Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and more). The Zone system is not left untouched in this book. If you think: B&W? Easy: desaturate, done. Then think again, from what you see here, you know this conversion can be done so much better. The displaying, mounting, presenting of the work are also covered. This really is a complete guide!When you pick this up you have a very attractive book in your hands. Written for easy reference, no lengthy chapters, but concise and direct 2, 3 pages on each subject. And believe me, you want to pick up this book, time and time again, to become a master yourself, at least in the processing and finishing department.

This volume fits with Michael Freeman's other books in these respects: Its the same size, Mr. Freeman's writing is accessible and clear, There is plenty of good information and how-to-do-it examples. I have read two other books by Mr. Freeman and like them very much.The bad is the production of the book. There are obvious and easy to catch misspellings. Sentences that make no sense. Sentences that aren't. On one page two of the example graphics are incorrectly labelled (the labels were switched and the examples and descriptions were opposites). All this carried on throughout (I had hoped the situation would improve as the book went on - it didn't). On the first page of each section there are several lines of boldface type. I thought it would be a very brief overview or a short pertinent quote from the text. No, although it is located halfway down the page, it is the beginning of the text. You must read it first.I'm glad Mr. Freeman's newer book(s) are from Focal Press, they seem to have a much better grasp on putting together a quality product.

I have purchased many of Michael Freeman's books. This one meets all of the excellent standards that I like and respect about his writings. I particularly found his comparisons with color imaging and silver based photography stimulating. The only criticism I have is the poor proof reading. There are many misspelled words, words left out, etc. As a result reading the book can be a bit tedious. This was not the case with the authors other books.

Great Book - Very Helpful. I have learned a lot about digital black and white which is not available in other black and white books.

I've been shooting B&W for almost 60 years, but I appreciated the author's revisiting of the medium's history, and the philosophy that kept many of us shooting B&W long after good color films were commonplace. As a general introduction to B&W photography, this is an excellent book. Most of the technical information is slated toward Photoshop CS4, I think, as that's the latest version mentioned in this 2011-publication book. A handful of good alternative software packages are mentioned, but not covered in great detail. There have been comments here about the author's understanding of Photoshop tools, but there are many ways to convert a color image to monochrome. Ultimately, it's the photographer's eye, coupled with a willingness to spend time learning what all the menu options do, that will produce good results. Good photography is hard work. Pressing the shutter release is easy; what you do before and after are what matter.This "Complete Guide" covers all the facets of digital B&W photography, and on opening the book one is immediately impressed by the design. Echoing others' complaints, where it falls down is in proof-reading! I will think twice before buying another Lark Press book for this reason alone. Yes, the images are helpful and, even with the typos, the text is informative. But the typos and either flipped illustrations or erroneous captions become intrusive in a hurry. Given the production costs and the costs of licensing Ansel Adams' and others' photos, a few hundred extra bucks for a proof reader doesn't seem out of line. Still, if you're interested in exploring black-and-white digital photography and you have a DSLR and Photoshop CS4 or later, you'll find a great deal of helpful information and inspiration in this book.

This could have been told much better. It uses stilted language that is used in so many pseudo-Native American legends. It makes it less accessible to kids. This is a very nice story. I don't know if it is a "real" legend or mae up but it is a good story with reasonable plot and good for cultural learning but it could have been better written. Illustrations are fine for kids, clear and descriptive.

I just read this story to my grandson and I must say it was beautiful. I'm not a mushy kind of person but this was awesome. He loved it too.

Wonderful little book about the story of the Paintbrushes seen along the hills and highways in the Spring. Enjoyed it.

This book is beautiful and I'm so glad I was able to buy a copy for my kids

I like this legend because it tells the story of a young boy who works hard to achieve his goal despite being unable to join his peers in some of their activities. It introduces children to a different way of life in words and with wonderful illustrations.

Very colorful illustrations that suits the title. I loved it as much as my kid.

These books were given as gifts to Texas cousins. I used them when teaching 3rd grade, in art projects, literature, and Soc. St. They are really wonderful. The characters in Legend of the Indian Paint Brush, and Legen of the Blue Bonnet are children so children can identify with the story. And, there is always a little lesson without being preachy.

I am 74 years old. The world is different now; there are more risks and more choices than when I was 15, but this movie reminded me of what it felt like to be 15 and 16 in 1954 and 1955. In those days homework was accompanied by radio with Rock and Roll music thanks to Alan Fried, Ranger hockey against Maurice Richard, and Gene Shepard,the best story teller of all time. Most of us had after school jobs which gave us enough spending money to begin making choices independent of our parents, and every day we left home and entered the world alone, with very little confidence but with the hope that everything was going to work out. Watching Charlie going through his day, observing the antics of his friends and trying to make sense of it all, brought tears to my eyes. The beauty of the movie is that it captures the universal experience of adolescence, and fortunately, as difficult as the experience may be, just like Charlie, most of us make it through.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is a truly moving story about Charlie, a freshman in high school, who is by no means popular. He is very shy, but that all comes down to a mental issue that occurred because of something that happened when he was younger, which you will get the gist of later on in the book. The author, Stephen Chbosky, has plotted this story very well. It isn't your average book set up - Charlie writes letters to an anonymous reader known as 'Friend'. Charlie tells this person everything he does and feels, who he meets and loves. Charlie meets two outgoing outsiders that are much cooler than him, but they accept him and he finally feels included. Patrick, a gay, happy and outgoing teen, and Sam, a beautiful young woman, introduce Charlie to a new world filled with sex, drugs and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. They also show Charlie the power of music and Charlie becomes more and more music savvy. He particularly likes The Smiths and the song ‘Asleep’. Charlie goes on a rollercoaster ride full of emotions, and learns that he has the greatest friends he could wish for. If you read this story you will laugh, cry and keep reading on. It is not to be missed. Charlie will show you that high school can be enjoyed if you have the right friends and becoming a teenager isn't as scary as you think, even though it seems that way. Although, I could not relate to any of the characters in the book, it was interesting to learn about what other people might be going through. This book really opened my eyes, and made me realize that people might seem fine on the outside, but there are often bigger things going on in their lives. Charlie's story touched me, because I feel like many authors don't like to talk about the things that Charlie went through as a kid. It was a refreshingly new way of writing. I would most definitely recommend this book to a friend because I think that everyone would enjoy reading this book. If I could change something about this book, I wouldn’t change anything. Although some parts were sad, I think that the book wouldn't be half as good if anything was changed in it.  All in all, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an easy and fun read, and I highly recommend picking it up.

Loved it. Like "the fault in our stars" I tore through this one in 2 days. This is a book that will take you through the american high school growing up experience. It doesn't attempt to avoid any part of it, which is why it is often found on banned book lists at schools. I think it is easy to see why (though the author is apparently surprised). There is drug use, there is sexual stuff, some violence. Having said that, I don't think it is a book that emphasizes any of it, but simply acknowledges: these things are a part of the culture.I really appreciate that this book does not overhype any part of life. It is not trying to sell you anything and that is so refreshing.The story is set up as a character named charlie writing letters to a more mature person he has never met, a person who "listens and understands and doesn't try to sleep with people just because you could have." Someone describes charlie as being a "wallflower" --a person who observes things and doesn't participate. He tries and begins to participate a bit more often. He finds a group of friends that is something like the 90's equivalent of the modern "hipster" crowd, who likes to listen to music, read books, is not inclined towards pop culture, experiments with some drugs and alcohol.This book is full of observations on the american culture from a wallflower perspective- someone who is in it, but observing it as much as participating in it. In retrospect it is beautiful for taking a calm look at it, not worried, but seeing what is there.This book would be most valuable to the adolescents who are going through, and about to go through the experiences described. They will know that there are many parts that are socially constructed and they should know it is all a phase and to feel confident in who they are, there is more to life than what you experience as an adolescent. Experience that time, don't miss it, but be yourself, even if there is no immediate popularity, you will be fine.Some parents would feel nervous about some of the topics in the book. But to be honest, that is life. I'm reminded of a certain man from Galilee who was eventually killed saying "don't worry about your life" and a certain hobbit from the shire saying "it's dangerous business to walk out your front door" ... it is. There are great experiences and ones that hurt and are sad. That's life. This book is a snapshot of life. If I continue to work with this age group, I will often recommend it.
