In my role as a consultant, I find that there are smart people doing good things...in silos. This guide is a good foundation for building a program that ties disparate efforts together as a cohesive and effective infosec program. This book continues to be a good reference.I think the book could have been improved with more pictures of alligators and other dangerous reptilian creatures.

Great book for infosec pros it gives you an advanced insight about the incident response challenges. The idea of a playbook for IR is great.

I'm a DFIR investigator with a fair share of experience in this field and I've always been interested in any books on such topics. As far as I can tell Crafting the InfoSec Playbook wants to be a guideline for how to run a SOC.The first chapters cover very generic facts and best practices around IR and the management of a SOC. During the first 6 chapters I felt like reading Cpt. Obvious notes about running a SOC.The real "action" starts with chapter 7 and it's quite interesting/useful. You can tell the authors have a solid background in IR but the book will be of little help for mature/advanced security teams.

Excellent.

Phenomenal book, chock full of great ideas about how to build and operationalize your SOC. Includes high level concepts as well as detailed technical ideas. Highly recommended for anyone building or improving a security program.

Down to earth with tips you can take straight to the InfoSec bank.

Author does a great job of laying out why a playbook is important. I really like how he stepped through some key technologies and described how they contribute to the overall security stack.

The narrator of this book has the same name as the author, so perhaps it is autobiographical. Either way, it is fantastic, comical, serious, full of surprise and angst. TThe setting is Lima, Peru, where the three main characters really stir things up. The scriptwriter is a very successful author of daytime dramas, a madman obsessed with what he considers to be perfection in his scripts. He acts in his dramas also, practically living in the studio. He is tolerated because his dramas are wildly successful, faithfully listened to by most of Peru and other countries nearby.Aunt Julia, the narrator's aunt by marriage, is a beautiful divorcee who moves home to her family in Lima. The narrator is an 18-year-old student (Julia's 32) who works at the same radio station as the scriptwriter. He has a very closely knit family and comes in contact with Aunt Julia almost daily. He falls madly in love with her, and as he's a very attractive young man, Aunt Julia succumbs to his charms. They try to keep their relationship quiet, which is virtually impossible, so they make plans to marry.These two story lines are augmented by seemingly random chapters of other people's bizarre circumstances which eventually intertwine in hilarious and dramatic ways with the main plot.

Set back in the day before television was introduced to Peru, we follow the life of student, Marito, as he works at Panamerica, writing up news scripts for the radio station and studies for his law exams. His life is disrupted by the arrival of his Aunt Julia with whom he embarks on a secret affair, and Pedro Camacho, a popular Bolivian radio soap opera scriptwriter.Alternating between chapters in Marito's life are Pedro's increasingly hilarious and bizarre soap opera segments. As Marito and Aunt Julia's love affair gradually progresses into something neither had expected, so does Marito's relationship with Pedro, building from mere colleagues to confidantes. Pedro's radio soap operas hold the listeners glued to their radios at various times during the day.It took me a little while before I realized that certain chapters I'd thought to be part of Marito's story were soap opera stories, complete with the requisite cliffhangers.I think this is one of the author's more entertaining book.

It is always difficult to filter through reviews on novels when you do not know the person rating the book. Without going into the plot, here is what this book reminds me of and similar books that I've enjoyed. If you like any of these others, I'd recommend giving this one a try.The plot, sense of humour (though toned down a bit) and writing style remind me of TomRobbins books- fierce invalids, even cowgirls get the blues, still life with woodpecker etc.I'm also reminded of Confederacy of Dunces's Ignacio (in one of the main characters).Other books I've enjoyed that I can think of are:Nabokov invitation to a beheading, all Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, all of those john Irving books,All of those girl with dragon tattoo booksAll of Tom Robbins books, count of Monte Christo, Christopher Moores books, Hemingway bookenBooks I don't like areMoby Dick, any john Updike books, Charles dickens books, any Joseph Conrad books except heart of darkness,

If it weren't for wanting to know the outcome of an 18 year-old writer's pursuit of a divorcee 14 years his senior, reading Mario Vargas Llosa's Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter: A Novel would be a challenge to finish. Then again, one could skip almost every other chapter told from a third person point of view and, instead, read those chapters told in the voice of Llosa's love-struck protagonist, the author's namesake.To do so, however, one might miss the point of Llosa's novel - that infatuation, like obsession, brings erratic thinking and behavior. If a reader should dismiss the inappropriateness or insanity of the affair between the young lover and his conquest, the third person narratives reinforce Llosa's theme like a slap given to someone making no sense.Llosa's intention with the third person narratives is not so obvious in the first instance, a story about a concerned doctor who discovers a horrible truth about a brother and sister on a wedding day. It is also not apparent how the third person narratives relate to the main story until a few more chapters pass and, through "Mario's" voice, a reader learns their purpose; the third person narratives are actually soap operas written by an eccentric scriptwriter and aired from a radio station where "Marito," as "Aunt Julia" calls him, works.Enjoyable to read at first, or hear from the perspective of "Mario's" relatives, the workaholic "scriptwriter's" soap operas explore characters with their own neuroses. Unfortunately, both readers and "listeners" have to suffer through bad writing that is eventually explained as the "scriptwriter's" work. Whenever I neared the completion of some of "Mario's" first person accounts, I cringed, anticipating the "soap opera" chapters, roughly 30 pages long and with sentence structures so complex and convoluted that I wanted to skip them. Because "Mario's" relatives provided commentary on the quality of the radio soap opera, I continued reading them as characters once killed off returned to life or have their backgrounds altered or confused with other characters.But most compelling is "Mario's" journey to claim the eye of his affection. The situation prevents disinterest in the novel as "Mario" tries to keep his affair on the down low and then, once found out, contends with his Catholic family members' reactions, which provide some of the novel's humor. Whether one chooses to skip chapters or read "Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter" from cover to cover, one thing is certain to be felt: anticipation of what happens next.

I first picked up this book because of the cover. I mean it screamed “READ ME”. And also, the blurb pulled me in too. After all, I am a huge fan of Pretty Little Liars and Scream Queens. So, did this book accomplish what I had hoped? Overall, yes it did. I found it to be not only enjoyable but creepy and fun as well. However, I wish the book STAYED creepy. I wasn’t really a fan of the ending or what was really killing off these girls. I can’t go into details because if I do I will spoil it, but for some reason this just didn’t do it for me. Other than that, the book is great.The book is about a bunch of high school students who ultimately end up on the “hottie” list. Each year 10 girls are chosen and this forms an elite sisterhood between the girls. Unfortunately for the girls who made the list this year, something is killing them. Each and every death is made to appear as an accident. Is it, or isn’t it? That’s the fun in reading it.The characters in this book are pretty likeable. While it took me a little time to warm up to them, eventually I did. I liked Kenzie and her backstory especially where it concerns her family and her brother. The whole situation made me emotional and I could essentially feel the emotions her character was emitting. I also liked the secondary characters as they reminded me of my high school days. You have the popular kids, the nerds, the jocks, the cheerleaders etc. So overall, the characters were written well and fit into the “high school cliché”.The plot is interesting and pretty unique as I have never read a book like this before. This is what made reading it so exciting for me. Again, while I wasn’t a fan of the ending the book still held its ground and was interesting.Overall this is a very enjoyable 4 star read. If you like young adult mysteries with some serious creep factor than this is certainly one to consider. While I am not a huge fan of the price ($10.99 on kindle) it’s a good book worth getting your hands on

Even the cover of They All Fall Down looked so creepy that I knew I had to read this book pronto! Especially after reading the synopsis, and for the most part it did deliver.They All Fall Down starts with our heroine Mackenzie who is just your average type typical girl next door, whose striving to get through school so she can get on to better things, such as college, to where the memory of her beloved brothers death, and split family might be a thing of the past. But everything turns around when she finds out that she is part of the schools much anticipated "Hottie List." A list that only has ten of the hottest girls in the school, and Kenzie is still struggling to figure out how she managed to land on it...that is until the ultimate hottie himself, Josh, rolls up to her with a wicked smile that melts her brain. Figuring the list is stupid, but could put her in the vicinity of Mr. Hottie Kenzie just goes along with it. That is until the girls start having accidents...accidents that can't be explained, and when deaths start to occur rumors fly of a curse on the girls on the hottie list. And if that isn't unnerving enough to Kenzie the bad boy at school now has his eye on her too, and while her blood may run hot at the thought of Josh, it's absolutely an inferno when Levi looks at her. But all these thoughts go flying out of her head once the girls numbers start to dissipate, and she realizes she's next. It's up to her and her loyal friends to help figure this mystery out before her time is up.This book truly had so much going for it! Great characters that you rallied for, and each supporting character had a great personality that matched their actions, and were totally believable. The main character was written well, and the plot was very good! I love a great mystery, and this book really did hold my attention until the end. The love interest wasn't actually bad at all, and I liked how it was written. There was no true insta-love here, and I enjoyed that immensely! I get so sick of that or a total love triangle, but Kenzie knew exactly what she wanted, and wasn't afraid to go for it, and yet, she understood some things needed to wait as the death of the girls on the list was more important, so the author did a great job there giving Kenzie a logical head. That being said...the ending. Wow. I didn't see it going there at all, and it did get cheesy for me. Totally cheesy. Was it still a great read? Yes. It truly was. It had me on edge trying to see if it was a curse of it someone was behind all these deaths, and then how the other clues could fit in to the rest of it. And I really did not see this going in the direction it took. Which were all great things. However, the end was just way too silly for me, and the author left the end open for a series. I wont' give the ending away, but if you are expecting ghostly encounters, look elsewhere than They All Fall Down. With all that being said, I still do recommend reading this book as it did have a lot of the elements I love, with a mystery thrown in, a little romance, adventure, and a girl who will try her hardest to kick butt or think herself out of a situation, plus a great set of characters. The ending sucked, but it's just because I was waiting for a ghostly ending or someone who wanted revenge. Even without that element and the weird line it took it was still a great book!

Very cute book. A great Father's Day gift, especially for a first-time father. I got it for my brother and nephew for their first Father's Day together. My brother cried. And, after one year, it has become my nephew's favorite book.

The book is well made and the images are nicely painted. Every page contains just a small sentence so I am planning on adding photos of baby and daddy doing the things mentioned on each page as a father's day gift.

My girls have had this book for years, but kids being kids, pages got tore out and messed up and their favorite part in the book "My Daddy tickles me" was tore out and lost. So I found this on Amazon and purchased it so we could continue with our bed time book when I'm home from traveling. My only complaint is I wish this book was a big book like the original one. But, that being said, this book will last a lot longer than the last one.

My daughter loves this book. We checked it out from the library and she loved it so much it became a must have for our home library. Adorable and spurs conversations of loving memories we have with our own daddy!

Like many other people who are thinking about getting this book, I am reading it for a history class. I would agree with many that it is a compelling read and very interesting, but it can get kind of confusing and boring if you don't know anything about this time period of these people. I'm am writing a paper on this, and I've found that by rereading the preface, I was able to piece everything together again. If you start to feel bogged down in the countless details, then reread the summary of the books parts in the preface. This will help even if you're reading it for fun, because it reminds you of what's important and why. I would definitely recommend this book, I didn't value English history much before I read this, and now I hope to read more about this time period and the ones preceding and succeeding it if I get the chance!

Growing up in Southern California during the late 50s and early 60s in a middle-class WASP environment, I, an avid reader born of two avid readers, was almost predestined to be exposed to stories of King Arthur, Robin Hood, and King Richard the Lionheart. Plus, going to a Catholic grade school, we learned of King Henry VIII, who treated several of his wives most shamefully and tore his realm from the bosom of Mother Church. Thus, by 1975, I was primed for my first visit to England. Upon my return, I stumbled upon the magnificent 4-volume set on the Plantagenet kings by Thomas Costain (THE CONQUERING FAMILY, THE MAGNIFICENT CENTURY, THE THREE EDWARDS, THE LAST PLANTAGENETS). I became hooked then, and for life, on British history, and I’ve returned to the island more times than I can offhand remember and travelled to all its corners and many points in between.THE PLANTAGENETS by Dan Jones, though it concludes with Richard II while Costain’s series continues to Richard III’s overthrow by Henry Tudor (Henry VII), is simply a magnificent reminder to me four decades later why I came to love England and Great Britain more perhaps than my own country.THE PLANTAGENETS contains eight pages of color photos. Surprisingly, it’s in this section that I noticed a glaring mistake, rather surprising since the book as a whole is obviously such a work of love for the author. One of the snaps is of Conwy, one of Edward I’s Welsh castles. The trouble is, it’s not Conwy, but Harlech. That’s like mislabeling a photo of London’s Westminster Cathedral (Roman Catholic) as St. Paul’s Cathedral (Anglican). The two are very different in appearance and identity. (I trust one also knows the difference between Westminster CATHEDRAL and Westminster ABBEY.)The startling error in the photo section aside, if you can’t find Costain’s books, then that by Jones is a splendid narrative on the subject. Honor is due Dan for the effort and research it took to write it.

This book is a fascinating gestation on the history not only of Plantagenet England in the Late Middle Ages, but also of the many places and key world events that were directly influenced by Plantagenet Kings: these include Richard the Lionheart's riveting adventures in Jerusalem during the Second Crusade, when the Princes of Europe fought against the brilliant and infamous Muslim warrior-king Saladin; the epic struggles between the kings of England and of France, which this book explores and explains quite vividly, especially the beginning of the Hundred Years' War and England's incredible early victories at Crecy and Poitiers under Edward III and his son the Black Prince, which helps to illuminate the difficult and often hostile relationship between the two kingdoms that shaped the foreign policies of each all the way through the Napoleonic Wars and beyond; England's final subjugation of Wales under Llewellyn the Last; the great and terrible wars with Scotland, which include legendary Scottish national heroes like Robert the Bruce and William Wallace (which will be appreciated by fans of the movie Braveheart, which bends the historical record to imply that Edward III was actually the son of Wallace and Edward II's wife Isabella, played by the beautiful Sophie Marceau). All of which takes place against the dramatic backdrop of the shifting and incredibly tumultuous geopolitics of Medieval Europe; from the Western Schism of the Catholic Church, when the Holy See was moved from Rome to Avignon; to the diplomatic battles between English kings and the Vatican, which prefigure Henry VIII's final split with Rome; to the Holy Roman Emperors; the early bankers of Florence (most interestingly the financial ruin of the Bardi family by Edward III's defaulted loans, which laid the way for the rise of the Medici in later years). To pack so much history into a single volume, and to do it with both granular detail and compulsive readability, is truly an amazing feat, and a tribute to the literary prowess and deep historical knowledge of Dan Jones.
